Vidyasiri Scheme Benefited 30,000 Students: Minister
More than 30,000 students from Other Backward Communities (OBCs) pursuing higher education have benefited from the government’s Vidyasiri scheme launched recently.
Under the scheme, the government grants `1500 as stipend to students choosing to stay on their own instead of opting for government hostels.
Addressing newsmen here on Tuesday, Social Welfare minister H Anjaneya said the scheme is being implemented in all districts.
He said one-third of the 30,000 students belong to Category-I in the OBC list. He clarified that the government is not abandoning its plans to construct new hostels by launching this scheme. “There is a proposal to construct new hostels in 14 universities across the State,” he said.
He said the government also plans to extend its benefits to students of pharma, nursing, medical and engineering courses.
‘No Decision on Internal Quota’
The State government will consider internal reservation among Scheduled Caste groups only after arriving at a consensus on the issue, he said. He told reporters that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will take the final call on the “very complex” matter. “As of now only 2,445 backlog posts for SCs and another 1,030 for STs remain to be filled,” he said. He said the government is taking all possible steps to fill up these jobs.

EPass Scholarships for Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe Epass Scholarship income eligibility for Backward Classes annual income is below 1 Lakh rupees and for Schedule Caste (SC) and Schedule Tribes (ST) is below 2 Lakhs rupees per annum
Eligible Students for ePass:
The students who belongs to SC (Schedule Caste) and ST (Schedule Tribe) whose parental annual income is below two lakhs rupees are eligible for this scholarship.
